About Us

At Heaven Sent Homebirth, our story began 20 years ago with a powerful, life-changing experience. When I gave birth to my first child at home, with my husband catching our baby in the bathtub, I felt a deep sense of empowerment and beauty that is often missing from the typical birth narrative. I had the amazing privilege of working at a maternity center in Las Vegas, Nevada for over a decade providing services as a labor doula, herbalist, childbirth educator and eventually midwifery. Unfortunately, with the start of the pandemic, Las Vegas experienced an economic devastation. So, we gathered our family together and moved to our home away from home, my birthplace, Iowa.

When we moved to Iowa, I was struck by the vast maternity care deserts, where women had few options for holistic, low-intervention care. I began traveling to very rural areas to offer homebirth services and quickly encountered challenges—long transfer times and limited access to nearby hospitals in case of emergency. It became clear to me that a community birth center could provide a safer, more accessible option for families who were desperately searching for better options. As luck would have it, on July of 2025, the law changed in Iowa, lifting restrictions for opening free-standing birth centers.​

 

It was only a matter of time before we fell madly in love with a beautiful victorian house in Adel that was built in 1890. The home was exactly what we were looking for. A cozy home with plenty of room to usher in new life.
